The first mountain bikes were made out of steel, but that is not why we decided to make these. We chose steel because it offers the best combination of value, comfort, and resiliency of all the popular frame materials. Hardly any folks these days buy a steel frame as their first mountain bike. It's those who've ridden a while and have tried aluminum and full suspension -- who come a knockin'. We do 29ers, 26ers, and 650B'ers.

The original inspiration for the Wolverine was “monster cross”, but it is seriously so much more. Its geometry is stable enough for off road touring, but sporty enough for all-around adventure and gravel riding. With its sliding dropouts, you can run single-speed, derailleur gearing or hub gearing (Rohloff, etc). With a split seatstay, it is compatible with the Gates Carbon Belt Drive.
2023 brings our version 4.1 B-Type that adopts flat mount brakes on both frame and fork. Version 4.0 which uses the IS brake mount will be available most of 2023. Flat mounts have become the primary standard for road brakes, but IS mounts are still more convenient for builds running flat bars, MTB drivetrains, or larger disc rotors
(Also check out the Wolverine v.4.1 Type-A, which adopts slightly more modern standards! See chart in photo gallery for their differences)

The primary differences between the version 3.0 Wolverine and the v. 4 Type-A and B is a new 46cm size, an extra set of water bottle bosses, and additional stack height on most sizes. The Type-A ALSO adopts more modern standards such as 142mm rear thru-axle and a 44mm headtube that will fit 1-1/8 straight steerer or tapered steerer with the proper headset type. NO frame break for Belt-Drive. (See chart for other differences between A and B)
